Reducing Waste, Conserving the Environment

Water

Rose Acre Farms strives to reduce water waste and reuse water whenever possible. By using phosphorous-free chemicals for egg washing, and constructing wetlands on some of our properties, we developed a natural, low-cost, energy-efficient means to treat our egg production waste water. We treat water used to wash and sanitize eggs and reuse it to water cropland and recharge aquifers.

Manure

Manure from Rose Acre Farms hens is sold for use as organic soil amendment to local farmers to aid in crop production. In addition, some of the manure is processed into Grade A compost distributed to local farmers, gardeners and the general public. Learn more about our manure here.

Broken Eggs

Broken eggs are processed and purified in a separate facility for use in pet food products.  We grind egg shells from our egg production facilities for local farmers to use as a liming agent in their fields.

Materials

Throughout the company, we use wood pallets for transportation, and we salvage and repair damaged pallets for reuse. All cardboard and organic waste materials are recycled, as is all scrap metal.

Packaging

We require our vendors to use sustainable, recycled or recyclable materials whenever possible. All of our corrugated packaging comes from Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) certified sources, pulp egg cartons come from post-consumer recycled materials, and our Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) egg cartons are 100% recyclable PET.
