Grandma Otte's Yellow Bread

From our family cookbook, enjoy! This recipe is so good, my Aunt Thelma said that there was never any left for the "grownups" to eat, as all the grandchildren would wolf it down before the they could even get any!

Items Needed:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 3 eggs (well beaten)
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 5 to 6 cups sifted flour

Scald milk, sgar, salt & butter together in a saucepan. Pour into a large bowl; Stir in eggs & yeast; stir in the yeast and stir, then add eggs. Stir in enough flour to make a sticky dough, cover and set aside for 20 minutes. Turn out on floured board and knead until it is not sticky. Divide dough in half and make into loaves or put into 9 inch pie pans. Brush melted butter over the tops.

Let rise until double in bulk.

Bake in a 350 degree F overn for 45 minutes.

This photograph was taken of Grandma on the farm, the cows are just visible in the background!
