![]() Rose Acre Farms believes that having continued success in the agriculture industry, it is our responsibility to be able to provide consumers with a safe and quality product that is sustainable for many years to come based on animal health and well-being, worker safety, scientific study, and affordability. Increased environmental and ethical awareness is also crucial to maintaining a successful and sustainable business that provides a safe and nutritious food source from farm to table. We continue to learn from the past, evaluate the present, and look forward to the future in order to improve our sustainability in the agriculture industry. Energy: Compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL's) are utilized in areas of production to reduce the amount of energy consumed for lighting. Rose Acre Farms plans to transition to LED lighting in the near future which will consume even less energy at each of our facilities. Animal Feed: Grains from local farmers are purchased in order to reduce the carbon footprint from transportation. In turn, this money can be returned to, and has the ability to stay within the local economy. Rose Acre Farms implements feeding programs that formulate the hen's diet to match nutritional needs at various periods of their commercial life. This process minimizes unused or indigestible nutrients. Water: Daily water usage is recorded at each facility. We strive to minimize the amount of water used and to prevent aquifer depletion. On the opposite end, egg wash water goes through stages of treatment and is ultimately land applied back to cropland for use of nutrients and to recharge aquifers. Manure: Manure from our hens is sold as natural fertilizer to local farmers for crop production. In North Carolina, Rose Acre Farms processes its manure into Grade A compost that is distributed to local farmers, gardeners, and to the public for unrestricted use. Useful by-products: Egg that does not meet Grade A guidelines is collected and taken to our drying plant where it is processed and packed for use in pet food products. Egg shells from further processing plants are ground and used as a liming agent on agricultural fields by local farmers. Tree Planting: Our layer and pullet facilities have vegetative buffers around all sides of the perimeter, excluding the entry. One facility has planted nearly 23 acres of trees on the property. This aids greatly in keeping the surrounding air safe and clean. Recycling Programs: Wood pallets are reused throughout the company. Damaged or broken pallets are salvaged and repaired onsite for reuse. Cardboard and other packaging materials are flattened and bailed to be recycled. Scrap metal is separated from other solid waste and recycled. Sustainability extending to our vendors: Corrugated packaging comes from SFI Certified sources. Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) http://www.sfiprogram.org/sustainable-forestry-initiative/basics-of-sfi.php Pulp cartons come from post consumer recycled materials. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) cartons are 100% recyclable and come from 50% recycled materials. Return home |
