Coffee Can Bread 2 loaves A recipe from harder times when perhaps a proper loaf pan was not available, but fun to try using 2 empty 1 lb METAL coffee cans (Don't add the coffee and make sure they are clean!). Items Needed: Dissolve yeast in water. Combine milk with oil, sugar and salt in saucepan. Heat until sugar dissolves. Cool to lukewarm. Stir yeast mixture into 1 1/2 cups flour. Add milk mixture and beat until smooth. Stir in eggs and remaining 2 1/2 cups flour. Beat until smooth and elastic. Grease the coffee cans. Spoon into the 1-pound coffee cans. Cover with plastic lids or plastic wrap. Let rise until dough almost touches lid, about 1 hour. Remove lids. Place cans on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 375 degree F oven for 30-35 minutes. Cool 10 minutes before removing from can. |
